Zimbabwe eye 3-0 sweep as Bangladesh seek consolation in final ODI
By Shivam Kumar (SK), Senior Sports Reporter
Zimbabwe vs Bangladesh takes centre stage in Harare on Saturday with the hosts chasing a 3-0 ODI series sweep after already securing the series. Bangladesh, meanwhile, are searching for a response after successive batting collapses left them without a win despite arriving in Zimbabwe on the back of three consecutive bilateral ODI series victories earlier this year.
The series has highlighted contrasting strengths. Zimbabwe's fast bowlers have repeatedly rescued their side under pressure, while Bangladesh have struggled to recover after losing wickets in clusters. Another victory would hand Zimbabwe their first clean sweep over Bangladesh in any format since 2001 and further reinforce their growing confidence ahead of co-hosting the 2027 ODI World Cup with South Africa and Namibia.
Zimbabwe's Path To This Match
Zimbabwe have exceeded expectations under a new captain by wrapping up the series with one match remaining. They defended just 141 in the opening ODI before producing another spirited comeback victory in the second game, where Ben Curran's unbeaten century and Brad Evans' valuable lower-order half-century helped build a competitive total before the seam attack delivered once again.
Their pace attack has been the defining factor throughout the series. Blessing Muzarabani has consistently generated bounce and movement, Richard Ngarava has led the attack effectively, while Brad Evans has contributed with both bat and ball. Evans claimed three wickets in the opener before adding two more in the second ODI alongside his unbeaten 58 from No. 8.
Zimbabwe also have positive recent history against Bangladesh at home. They defeated the visitors 2-1 in 2022 and have now secured another home ODI series victory regardless of Saturday's result.
Bangladesh's Path To This Match
Bangladesh entered the tour with momentum after ODI series wins over Pakistan, New Zealand and Australia in 2026. That confidence has quickly disappeared as batting failures have overshadowed encouraging spells from the bowling attack.
Taskin Ahmed has been Bangladesh's standout performer. The experienced fast bowler has taken two wickets in each of the opening two matches and has now claimed 18 wickets in ten ODIs this year. While Nahid Rana has attracted attention with his pace, Taskin's ability to strike early with the new ball has remained equally important.
Bangladesh have also been forced into an injury setback. Mustafizur Rahman has been ruled out for around four weeks because of hamstring and knee injuries. Left-arm seamer Shoriful Islam replaced him in the second ODI and is expected to retain his place as Mehidy Hasan Miraz's side look to avoid a series whitewash.
"Zimbabwe haven't completed a clean sweep of Bangladesh in any format since 2001."

What To Watch For
The biggest contest could again be between Bangladesh's top order and Zimbabwe's seam attack. Fast bowlers have claimed 28 of the 35 wickets to fall in the series, underlining how much assistance the Harare surface has offered.
Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana will hope to exploit similar conditions with the new ball, but Bangladesh's batting unit must deliver far greater resistance if they are to end the tour on a positive note. Zimbabwe, meanwhile, will again rely on Ben Curran, Sikandar Raza and Brad Evans to provide enough runs before their pace attack attempts to complete a memorable sweep.
The pitch is expected to continue favouring seam bowling rather than stroke play. Both teams have preferred bowling first after winning the toss, and another relatively low-scoring contest appears possible if the conditions remain unchanged. Temperatures are forecast to be around 23°C before cooling later in the day.
Zimbabwe's confidence has grown steadily since missing qualification for the 2023 ODI World Cup, and successive home series victories over Bangladesh suggest the side is building momentum before hosting the next global tournament. Bangladesh, by contrast, have an opportunity to regain confidence after an unexpectedly difficult tour.
The third ODI begins in Harare on Saturday, with Zimbabwe aiming to complete a 3-0 series sweep and Bangladesh seeking a consolation victory before returning home.
