Harare set the stage for another crucial contest as Zimbabwe chose to field first against India in the second T20I, hoping to level the three-match series after a seven-wicket defeat in the opener. India, meanwhile, made one change to their XI by handing Vidarbha fast bowler Yash Thakur his international debut.

Although opportunities at IPL level were limited this season, he impressed in domestic cricket by finishing as Vidarbha's leading wicket-taker during their maiden Vijay Hazare Trophy triumph, collecting 19 wickets in nine matches at an economy rate of 6.43.
India continued with Ravi Bishnoi as their only specialist spinner, meaning Harsh Dubey remained on the sidelines awaiting his first T20I appearance. The visitors also relied on all-rounders Shivam Dube and Abhishek Sharma to provide additional bowling options alongside the four frontline bowlers.

At the toss, Raza explained that he expected the Harare Sports Club surface to play differently from the first match and believed it would offer fewer challenges for batters early in the innings. His decision to field reflected confidence that Zimbabwe's bowlers could again exploit the conditions before chasing under lights.
