Sooryavanshi's 81 Seals India's 3-0 T20I Sweep Over Zimbabwe

Three victories from three matches. India completed a commanding 3-0 T20I series sweep over Zimbabwe with a 35-run win in the third T20I after Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's 81 laid the foundation for a defendable total of 192 for 5. The result also ensured India retained the No. 1 position in the ICC Men's T20I rankings after briefly surrendering it following the England series defeat.

Playing on the same slow Harare surface used in the second T20I, India adapted better than the hosts. After early pressure with Abhishek Sharma's dismissal, Sooryavanshi anchored the innings before Shreyas Iyer and Rinku Singh supplied the late acceleration. Zimbabwe never mounted a serious chase, finishing on 157 for 7, despite an unbeaten half-century from Ryan Burl.

India lost Abhishek Sharma early for the third consecutive match against Blessing Muzarabani, continuing a difficult tour for the left-hander after scores of 1, 8 and 2.

That early wicket barely slowed India's momentum. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ishan Kishan responded with a 75-run partnership from just 50 balls, absorbing the uneven bounce before taking calculated risks.

Unlike his earlier aggressive knocks this series, Sooryavanshi paced this innings carefully. His fifty arrived from 31 balls, the second-slowest half-century of his brief T20 career, reflecting the nature of the surface rather than any lack of intent.

He mixed elegant square drives with authoritative pulls and lofted shots down the ground. A towering 103-metre six off Sikandar Raza highlighted his growing confidence before Brad Evans produced an outstanding running catch at long-off to end his innings on 81 from 49 deliveries, featuring eight fours and four sixes.

At 78 runs after seven overs, India appeared set for another total beyond 200.

Zimbabwe's spinners changed the rhythm. Sikandar Raza and Wessly Madhevere reduced the scoring rate during the middle overs, while Brad Evans mixed slower deliveries effectively as the pitch increasingly gripped.

A quick comparison underlines the shift:

Ishan Kishan contributed 29 from 26 balls, while Shreyas Iyer recovered after a cautious start to score 27 from 18 balls. Rinku Singh added valuable late momentum with 25 from 14 deliveries, although India's finish remained controlled rather than explosive.

Evans finished with 2 for 41, ensuring Zimbabwe restricted what could easily have become a much larger total.

For the second time in the series, Mayank Yadav dismissed Brian Bennett with the first ball of the innings, producing another high-paced outswinger at 147kph that found the outside edge.

That breakthrough immediately handed India control.

Yash Thakur then struck twice in successive deliveries during the Powerplay. Dion Myers chipped tamely to mid-off before Sikandar Raza fell first ball, with Thakur completing a superb one-handed return catch.

Although Ravi Bishnoi conceded 13 runs in his opening over, Zimbabwe's 53-run Powerplay disguised the reality that they had already lost crucial wickets and required an accelerating scoring rate.

India's pace attack again demonstrated why it has become increasingly effective in T20 cricket. Mayank's raw speed consistently hurried the batters, while Thakur varied his lengths intelligently despite receiving little support from the fielders.

The only concern for India arrived in the field.

The visitors dropped five catches, three of them while Yash Thakur was bowling. Ishan Kishan spilled a straightforward chance after the Powerplay, Tilak Varma dropped Wessly Madhevere at cover, while Sooryavanshi also missed a more difficult opportunity at deep square leg.

Ryan Burl capitalised with an unbeaten 54 from 42 balls, registering his fifth T20I half-century, while Madhevere added 28 during a 60-run partnership.

Even so, the required rate continued climbing beyond ten and then twelve an over. Zimbabwe never truly threatened to overhaul India's target.

Mayank returned to dismiss Madhevere before finishing with 3 for 29, while Thakur claimed 2 for 45 as India comfortably closed out the contest.

India completed a 3-0 clean sweep, ending the Zimbabwe tour on a positive note after recent T20 setbacks elsewhere. Just as importantly, the victory kept them at the summit of the ICC Men's T20I rankings.

The batting order discovered another dependable top-order option in Sooryavanshi, who finished the series with two half-centuries. Mayank Yadav's pace also continued to trouble international batters, reinforcing India's fast-bowling depth ahead of future white-ball assignments.

Fielding, however, remains an area demanding immediate attention. Five dropped catches against stronger opposition could prove decisive.

India now turn their attention to upcoming international assignments carrying momentum rather than questions. Zimbabwe, meanwhile, will seek sharper execution after failing to seriously challenge in any of the three matches.
