Kuldeep Yadav signs for Yorkshire after India snub, set for County return

194 ODI wickets. 79 Test wickets. Yet Kuldeep Yadav didn't bowl a single delivery in India's recent ODI series against England. Now the left-arm wrist-spinner has secured regular cricket by signing for Yorkshire as an overseas player for the remainder of the 2026 English domestic season. The county confirmed the deal on Wednesday, with Kuldeep available for five Metro Bank One-Day Cup matches before returning in September for three of Yorkshire's final four Rothesay County Championship fixtures.

The move comes at an important stage in Kuldeep's career. Despite remaining one of India's most successful white-ball spinners, the 31-year-old found himself on the bench throughout the ODI series in England and was also omitted from India's T20I plans. Yorkshire's offer gives him valuable competitive cricket ahead of India's two-Test tour of Sri Lanka before he returns to England later in the season. 

What Led To This Decision

Kuldeep's signing follows a frustrating international spell rather than an injury setback.

He travelled with India's ODI squad in England but wasn't selected in any of the three matches. Yorkshire moved quickly to strengthen their spin attack during a dry English summer, believing conditions could increasingly favour slow bowlers in the closing weeks of the County Championship.

    Yorkshire see the Indian international as more than short-term cover.

    General Manager of Cricket Gavin Hamilton said Kuldeep would add "incredible strength" to the squad and believed the spinner's left-arm wrist-spin offered a different dimension during a season in which dry pitches are expected to reward spin bowling. Hamilton also highlighted Kuldeep's international experience as a major asset.

    The county has already included him in the squad for Friday's One-Day Cup fixture against Glamorgan, allowing him to make an immediate impact.
