Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe by four wickets to clinch T20I series

2 wins from the final two matches turned Bangladesh's tour around as they defeated Zimbabwe by four wickets with two balls remaining to clinch the three-match T20I series 2-1 in Bulawayo. Tanzid Hasan's composed 66 anchored a measured chase after Bangladesh restricted Zimbabwe to 143 for 7, securing their first T20I series victory of 2026.

Bangladesh entered the decider without injured fast bowler Nahid Rana but still produced a disciplined bowling display before holding their nerve in a tense finish. The victory completed a comeback after losing the opening T20I and ensured Sikandar Raza's record-breaking 314th international appearance ended in defeat.

Zimbabwe's innings never fully gathered momentum despite Dion Myers producing one of his best T20I performances. Brian Bennett and Myers rescued the hosts with a 71-run partnership for the second wicket after an early setback, but Bangladesh's bowlers ensured no other stand developed.

Myers finished with 73, his third T20I half-century, contributing more than half of Zimbabwe's total. Bennett's positive start helped Zimbabwe recover during the Powerplay, yet Bangladesh consistently controlled the scoring through tight seam bowling.

Taskin Ahmed proved difficult to attack throughout his spell, while Mohammad Saifuddin and Abdul Gaffar Saqlain provided excellent support. Zimbabwe's middle order struggled badly, with none of the remaining batters reaching double figures after Myers' dismissal.

Bangladesh's reply followed a different script. Rather than forcing the pace, Tanzid Hasan absorbed the pressure from Richard Ngarava and Blessing Muzarabani before gradually accelerating.

Bangladesh reached only 30 for 1 in the Powerplay, with Tanzid initially scoring below a run a ball. His patience proved decisive.

He first shared a half-century partnership with Parvez Hossain Emon before adding another fifty-run stand alongside Towhid Hridoy. Those partnerships removed scoreboard pressure and allowed Bangladesh to control the chase despite Zimbabwe's disciplined new-ball attack.

Tanzid reached his 13th T20I fifty from 45 deliveries before pushing Bangladesh within touching distance of victory.

Only then did Zimbabwe fight back.

Brad Evans produced an outstanding final over. After Tanzid collected a single, Mossadek Hossain was bowled attempting an aggressive finish. Mohammad Saifuddin followed by holing out, briefly opening the door for Zimbabwe.

The tension increased further when Evans believed he had Mehidy Hasan trapped lbw, only for umpire Forster Mutizwa to rule the delivery dead before it was bowled. Zimbabwe protested the decision, emotions spilled over, and the match paused briefly.

Bangladesh ended the contest immediately afterwards when Evans' fourth legal delivery disappeared for four, sealing victory with two balls remaining.

The decisive phase actually arrived before the chase.

Zimbabwe looked capable of posting around 160 after reaching 118 for 3 after 16 overs. Instead, Bangladesh's seamers dominated the closing exchanges.

Saifuddin removed Brad Evans and Clive Madande in successive deliveries during the penultimate over before Taskin Ahmed delivered an outstanding final over. Myers was run out trying to force a second run, while Taskin conceded only five runs in the 20th over.

Zimbabwe managed only 25 runs while losing four wickets across the final four overs.

That collapse ultimately separated the teams.

Historical comparison also tells the story. Zimbabwe won both the one-off Test and the ODI series 2-1 earlier in Bangladesh's tour, but Bangladesh responded by recovering from a 1-0 deficit to claim the T20I series—its first series win in the format during 2026.

The result handed Bangladesh a 2-1 T20I series victory after losing the opener, marking an important turnaround during a tour that had already seen Zimbabwe win both the Test match and the ODI series.

Zimbabwe, meanwhile, will quickly shift attention towards their upcoming T20I series against India. Myers' return to form offers encouragement, but the middle order's lack of contributions remains an obvious concern.

Bangladesh leave Bulawayo having found stability through Tanzid Hasan, whose consistency extended from the ODI series into the shortest format. His measured approach also provided a blueprint for chasing on slower Zimbabwean surfaces.

The series is over, but another challenge begins immediately. Can Bangladesh carry this batting template into tougher opposition, and what number will define their next T20I success?
