Ashutosh Sharma's move to Hampshire is another sign that county cricket continues to value India's emerging white-ball talent. Hampshire have secured the services of the 27-year-old Indian batting all-rounder for the 2026 Metro Bank One-Day Cup, adding an explosive lower-order option as they begin their latest push for the title.
The English county confirmed that Ashutosh will join the squad for the competition beginning on 21 July. Hampshire finished runners-up in last season's One-Day Cup and have strengthened their batting by bringing in one of the IPL's most exciting finishers.
What led to Hampshire's decision
Ashutosh arrives in England after establishing himself as an impactful player in franchise cricket. While his List A experience remains relatively limited, his reputation has grown rapidly thanks to his power-hitting in the IPL.
The Madhya Pradesh-born cricketer represents Delhi Capitals in the IPL, a franchise that shares ownership through the GMR Group with Hampshire. Although the shared ownership exists, Hampshire's Director of Cricket Giles White stressed that the signing was based on the player's ability and recent performances.

Across the 2025 and 2026 IPL seasons with Delhi Capitals, Ashutosh scored 350 runs at a strike rate of 170, building a reputation as one of the competition's most dangerous finishers. Before joining Delhi Capitals, he also featured for Punjab Kings, where he first attracted widespread attention with several match-winning cameos.
Although his List A numbers are more modest, he has accumulated 458 runs and claimed six wickets in 21 appearances, giving Hampshire an additional all-round option during the tournament.
Previous experience in English cricket
Unlike many first-time overseas recruits, Ashutosh is already familiar with English conditions.
He represented Middlesex Titans in 2017 before playing club cricket for Gravesend during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. In 2025, he grabbed headlines after scoring a rapid century for Wigan only hours after arriving in England, highlighting his ability to adapt quickly to unfamiliar conditions.
That experience should help him settle into Hampshire's dressing room with minimal adjustment before the county's opening fixture.
